Reminder: During P-element transposition, recessive lethal and sterile mutations can be induced which are closely linked to the P insertion site. In large-scale screens, recessive phenotypes have been associated with some P insertions only by the failure of P-bearing chromosomes to complement deficiencies for the regions of the P insertions. Use caution when attributing functions to genes based on experiments with these P insertion lines.
